Member Spotlight: Memphis Boat Center

For over 60 years member Memphis Boat Center has been serving families and water enthusiasts all over the Mid-South. The family-owned store is staffed with people who love to boat and are tapped into the needs of the local boating community. Today, we're chatting with Hart Robinson, President of Memphis Boat Center, who shares with us the friendly and professional culture you can expect to find at the store and on the lake.

Tell us a little about Memphis Boat Center.
We deliver fun and provide a vehicle for moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. to invest in family. Not all, but most of our clients buy a boat to get away from the stress of daily life and have a little vacation on the lake every weekend. At the same time these folks are investing in family and friends. These folks are investing in relationships. Many of the Memphis Boat Center team grew up this way and have fond memories of being on the water with their family. That drives us to do what we do. Memphis Boat Center has been providing boats, outboard motors, and trailers to the Mid-South since 1950.

What makes the Memphis Boat Center stand out?
There are several things that make us unique, but I would like to focus on two. First and foremost, we have a team that is serious about making the process of finding the right boat fun and exciting. We want our clients to love their boat, feel comfortable operating it, and know how to get the most out of their investment. Many boats we sell have some amazing features, but those features come with a learning curve. Our job isn't finished after our customers take delivery of their boats. We have a crew that spends nearly every weekend at Pickwick, where most of our boats go. Several weekends this summer our very own Houston Buckley spent the day at Pickwick jumping from boat to boat teaching and having fun with our clients. I don't think anybody else out there is doing that. We started taking the weekends at the lake seriously in 2014 when Enrique Martinez showed what he could do to provide a positively memorable experience on the water. If you meet these guys, you'll feel the passion that drives them.

Secondly, we are serious about pre-owned boats. We want to provide the best possible boat we can. When we get pre-owned boats we thoroughly inspect them in our shop with our factory-trained technicians. We then make repairs to any items that need attention, providing the needed maintenance. Those boats are then lake-tested and high quality photos as well as video are taken. On most pre-owned boats we guarantee everything to work on the boat. While it seems like that would be an obvious step that all pre-owned sellers would take, we have found that isn't the case at all. We want to provide the best possible product we can. We want our clients to have a boat they can count on when they go to the lake to make those memories.

What do you love most about your job?
I love hearing from clients how close boating has made their family. I love hearing about the memories made, fears conquered and confidence built. Boating is so much more than just having fun and unwinding. I believe some of life's lessons are learned on the water, and I love seeing all of it.

Where are your favorite places to boat?
Horseshoe Lake, Tunica Cutoff and Pickwick Lake feel like home to me. I've spent countless weekends at all of them since I was an infant. While those places are home, I don't so much mind where I'm boating, as long as I am boating.

When and where can we come see you?
