Andre Gibson of the Greater Memphis Chamber Appointed to National Transportation Board

Memphis, Tenn—Andre Gibson, the Membership Coordinator for the Greater Memphis Chamber, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), and the American Public Transportation Foundation (APTF) in October 2015 at APTA’s Annual Meeting.
APTA is the top advocacy organization for public transportation in the country--an international organization that has been representing the transit industry for over 100 years, since 1882. To strengthen and improve public transportation, APTA serves and leads its diverse membership through advocacy, innovation and information sharing. APTA and its members and staff work to ensure that public transportation is available and accessible for all Americans in communities across the country.
APTF is a charitable affiliate of APTA, which provides scholarships and fellowships designed to increase and retain the number of people choosing transit careers.
Since its inception in 1988, APTA has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships to more than 200 deserving students.
“Being nominated to the APTA board is an honor, and I am proud to have been recognized in this way by transportation professionals from around the nation. Additionally, I look forward to assisting in the great work of the American Public Transportation Federation to empower young people early in their transit careers,” said Andre Gibson, Membership Coordinator, Greater Memphis Chamber.
Gibson has been affiliated with APTA, serving on the Transit Board Member’s Executive Committee since 2012 and as a speaker at several transit conferences.
He has also served on the Board of Commissioners for the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) since 2012 and is currently the board’s Vice Chairman. Gibson joined the Chamber as Membership Coordinator in August of this year.
For more than 175 years, the Greater Memphis Chamber has been the lead economic development agency for Memphis/Shelby County, and is a private, non-profit, membership-driven organization comprised of 2,200 business enterprises, civic organizations, educational institutions and individuals.
