Drexel Chemical CEO & Chairman Leigh Shockey Named Chairman of the Greater Memphis Chamber

Business executive, Leigh Shockey, has been named Chairman of the Board for the Greater Memphis Chamber, by a unanimous vote by her fellow directors.  Shockey, who is CEO & Chairman for Drexel Chemical Company, assumes this position Tuesday, December 10 at the Chamber’s Annual Chairman’s Luncheon at The Peabody Memphis.  As Chairman of the Board, Shockey is charged with upholding the mission of the Chamber and supporting its economic development efforts. Shockey will also oversee efforts to hire a new President and CEO for the Chamber as John Moore is stepping down January 3, 2014.  Shockey fills the position of outgoing Chairman, Larry Cox, President & CEO of the Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority.

Shockey has been involved with the Chamber since 1999 when she became a member of the board of directors and has been Chair of the Chamber’s International Business Council.  One of her top priorities as Chairman will be focused on developing additional international business opportunities for Memphis businesses.

For 175 years, the Greater Memphis Chamber has been the lead economic development organization for Memphis/Shelby County, and is a private, non-profit, membership-driven organization comprised of 2,300 business enterprises, civic organizations, educational institutions and individuals.
