Greater Memphis Chamber Launches Young Professionals Council

Release date: 7/10/2014

The Greater Memphis Chamber launched SoundCheck: A Young Professionals Council of the Greater Memphis Chamber with business leaders and young professionals in attendance on Wednesday, July 9th.

“Our young professionals are our greatest asset,” said Phil Trenary, President & CEO, Greater Memphis Chamber. “These young leaders came to us and asked for a place where they could be actively engaged in making Memphis great. It’s the Chamber’s responsibility to help our young people form those important business connections now so collaboration in the business community continues.”

SoundCheck’s mission is to “make Memphis great for the next generation of business leaders.”  Memphis’ young professionals will benefit from a unique entity, driven by the leadership and vision of the Memphis business community, which provides them with vital opportunities to network and influence Chamber initiatives that will move Memphis forward.

"The Greater Memphis community has seen remarkable growth and progress on so many fronts over the past several years,” said Kerry Hayes, Chair of SoundCheck and PR Director for doug carpenter & associates. “Sustaining -- and accelerating -- that progress into the future will largely be the responsibility of our region's younger professionals. We created SoundCheck to make sure that these younger voices and viewpoints are included in meaningful, strategic work to improve our city's economy, reduce our debilitating poverty level, and continue making Memphis a place where professionals of any age can learn, grow, and enhance their careers."

The Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle will interact with SoundCheck members on their initiatives or “moon missions” which includes Early Childhood Education, Green Space Initiatives, Advanced Manufacturing Training, a Long-Term Plan for Memphis and Entrepreneurship. Additionally, SoundCheck will have Teams dedicated to: Memphis Publicity Locally and Regionally, Growing the Memphis Economy, Professional Development and a team focused solely on Chairman’s Circle initiatives called the Chairman’s Outer Circle.

“Having an influential voice in current and future business initiatives will allow us to make Memphis a desirable place for young professionals,” said Lisa Middlebrook, Vice Chair of SoundCheck and Training & Development Coordinator for Electrolux Major Appliances.

“On a personal note, SoundCheck will allow me the opportunity to give back to the city that has given me so much as well as further develop my leadership skills,” said Middlebrook.

SoundCheck will work with the business community and established young professional groups to retain and attract talented young professionals in the Memphis area.

“Soundcheck is vital to the future of Memphis,” said Trey Carter, Chair, Growing Memphis Economy SoundCheck Team and President of OCTI Training. “It serves as an incubator for future leaders which are the successors of our great city.  As a business owner and young professional, I want to be a part of growing Memphis’ economy.”
