Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy Provides a Platform for Achievement

The Greater Memphis Chamber always celebrates growth in our community. As an added benefit to your membership, we offer our expertise and assistance in hosting grand opening and expansion ceremonies.  We are excited to see our members succeed and want to make sure they have the resources to do so. Today we're celebrating Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy and the ways they serve people with disabilities in our community.

Why Memphis?
The Memphis area has not had a PATH, Intl. member center to provide equine assisted activities to serve people with disabilities for a very long time. Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy was founded in July of 2015 with the goal to serve as many people as can benefit from the amazing results our horses and ponies can make possible. We have already seen tremendous growth in our program within our first year of service, and we look forward to adding new participants each session to support our community.

What does your business do or provide?
Southern Reins provides equine assisted activities that include horseback riding, barn lessons, horsemanship and Hippotherapy. We are planning expansion of our program services to include equine facilitated mental health services in the near future. Our goal is to provide a platform where participants can achieve, aspire and amaze.

What makes your business stand out?
Southern Reins is a place where disabilities disappear and where ability shines through. The partnerships we have made are what define us - from the generous donors who underwrite our program and give so selflessly to make a difference to the tremendous corporation of volunteers who give their time, talent and treasure to share in the success - we are grateful to have been able to achieve so much in such a short time. It is truly a community that makes a family, and as a new non-profit serving the Memphis and the surrounding area, we are honored to be able to help our participants, and so very grateful for the incredible support the Memphis area has provided.

Why did you join the Chamber?
Southern Reins joined the Greater Memphis Chamber to support our community and share in its growth. Giving back and helping others is the foundation of our mission, and we are honored to be part of such an inspirational organization.

Who is your target market?
Southern Reins serves people with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities and hardship. We help individuals with diagnoses including ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, vision impairments, sensory integration issues, muscular dystrophy and more. Participants must be 5 years of age or older, and we have a weight limit for therapeutic riding of 180 pounds. With disabilities ranging from moderate to profound, we strive to help our participants gain confidence, independence, improve physical ability, and enhance communication through our equine programs.
