Your Chamber at Work

The Chamber is proud to be a member of the MemphisED Partnership, tasked with attracting new companies, retaining and growing existing firms, building our logistics and Aerotropolis assets, and helping grow the number of bioscience jobs in Memphis/Shelby County.  The Chamber is also responsible for supplying administrative and fiscal support for MemphisED, one of the four interdependent initiatives that together form the Memphis Fast Forward plan.

Memphis Fast Forward

Memphis Fast Forward is the most ambitious plan for accelerating economic growth and prosperity that Memphis and Shelby County have seen in a long time.

Spearheaded in 2005 by Shelby County Mayor A.C. Wharton, Memphis Mayor W.W. Herenton, Memphis Tomorrow, and the Greater Memphis Chamber, the initiative is informed by expert research and reflects the views and voices of more than 3,500 community leaders and citizens.

The Principle

The initiative is founded on the principle that economic growth and prosperity will follow as we successfully address the basics: good jobs, quality education, safe streets and efficient government.

The Plan

Memphis Fast Forward includes strategic plans in economic development (MemphisED); human capital development (PeopleFirst!); public safety (Operation Safe Community); and government efficiency (City and County Efficiency Plans).  These plans are interrelated and interdependent and will be executed simultaneously.

The Memphis Fast Forward initiative is managed by a Steering Committee comprised of public officials, business and community leaders.

MemphisED

MemphisED is a partnership of 16 local organizations, working on 15 specific strategies to help Memphis/Shelby County achieve 5 important goals:

  • Develop a Culture of Innovation & Entrepreneurial Activity
  • Market Memphis and Shelby County
  • Pursue Key Target Industries — Bioscience, Logistics, Tourism, Music and Film
  • Grow Existing Firms
  • Make Memphis a “Place of Choice” for Knowledge Workers

In addition to being one of the 16 partners, the Greater Memphis Chamber has responsibility for administering the MemphisED partnership.
