Marketing Specialist, FedEx
Michael Reynolds works for a company connected to the world. As a marketing specialist at FedEx, the 29-year-old helps execute product development, product support and promotional initiatives for certain freight customers. His career path started in sports, however.
A Jackson, Tennessee native, Reynolds got a bachelor’s of science degree in recreation administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2010, and later a master’s of science in recreation and sport management. His interests shifted, however, and he went back to school for a MBA in marketing. Almost three years ago, he joined FedEx.
A graduate of the Embark program with New Memphis Institute, Reynolds tries to volunteer with at least two organizations at a time. He currently mentors high school males through his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi. He is passionate about empowering others with knowledge about opportunities and how to access them. “I know more. I want others to know more,” he said.
Having been a charter member of UT’s chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Reynolds adopted his personal mantra, “lifting as we climb,” from the organization. “I want my influence, my clout, my pull, to help others,” he said.
Having grown up so near to Memphis, he felt intimate with the city early. A favorite amenity: Food. And he likes the culture. “They may be the most critical of their city but you better not talk about their city,” he said. “They’ll let you have it.”
