To change the perception of our city, we need to talk about all the good within the city. There is more to Memphis than what makes the headlines, more than what people post about.

Memphians, we need you to share the good news. If you recall, when I first started this newsletter, I asked each of you to share it with at least 100 people each week. And that call to action remains the same. Share it FOR MEMPHIS.

Today, we also celebrate a man who was always FOR MEMPHIS, Frederick W. Smith. Let’s honor his legacy by carrying forward his unwavering commitment to our city.

Every Memphian is My Neighbor

Founder of Church Health Rev. Dr. G. Scott Morris wrote a fantastic opinion piece published in The Daily Memphian. The inspiring article articulates exactly what this newsletter is about. He wrote, “Our identity must begin with our values, with what we hold dear. If we lead with compassion, generosity, resilience, faith, hard work and love for our neighbors, then Memphis will matter because of who we are, not because someone else finally noticed us.” Dr. Morris’s piece explains that Memphis is more than bad headlines and more than what naysayers spread. Ducks Unlimited Expo Draws More than 30,000 to Downtown Memphis

Did you know the nation’s largest waterfowl event takes place in Memphis? At the Ducks Unlimited Expo (DUX), 30,000 people spent three days downtown at the Renasant Convention Center. DUX delivered significant economic impact to Memphis, driving hotel occupancy, restaurant traffic, and visitor spending while reinforcing the city’s role as the home of Ducks Unlimited and as one of the country’s leading destinations for outdoor events. Goodwill’s Free High School for Adults opens 3rd Memphis Campus

Goodwill opened their first Memphis Excel Center campus in 2015. Since then, 1,700 students have graduated. The Goodwill Excel Center is a space for adults to earn high school diplomas, get certifications, and apply for college all at no cost. Just last week, they opened their 3rd center in Memphis to further their impact on our community. Read about it here.
