Memphis, Tenn. (Friday, October 7, 2022) – Marking the start of a new era and laying the foundation for its future growth, Memphis-based transportation company RDX, LLC today officially opened its new headquarters where the Mall of Memphis once stood on American Way.
RDX, which was founded in Bartlett in 2011 by Bulgarian immigrants Roumen Denkov and Dian “Dee” Tchoparov and now operates a growing fleet of 100 commercial trucks, purchased its new location at 4590 American Way at the end of 2019, but construction was delayed due to the pandemic. The headquarters – which was designed by RossWitt Architecture and built by Chriss Woods Construction – will serve as a modern, eco-friendly hub of RDX’s fleet, which is expected to grow by 15% this year.
“We are proud of what we’ve accomplished in the past 11 years, and we look forward to continuing to grow and create new career opportunities here in Memphis,” said RDX President Roumen Denkov. “Entrepreneurs want to be in a city that is centrally located and that welcomes businesses with open arms, but they also want to have a positive impact. That’s why we’re choosing to invest in Memphis.”
With its strategic location, Memphis has been and will continue to be a major transportation hub in America. Home to many small and large businesses in the industry, the city continues to attract more and more entrepreneurs not just with its location but also with its business-friendly environment. The headquarters’ proximity to Memphis’s industrial area, the FedEx Hub, and most importantly to I-240 made the location the perfect fit for RDX customers and drivers.
“Ask RDX founders why they’re in Memphis and they’ll tell you: location, location, location,” said Ted Townsend, chief economic development officer and incoming president & CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber. “Memphis has the nation’s busiest cargo airport, third busiest trucking corridor, fifth largest inland port, and is one of just three cities that have five Class I railroads. We can reach 90% of the world’s GDP within 72 hours. We are known as the global logistics leader for a reason, and we’re excited RDX is part of this movement.”
The support from the local government plays a major role in the creation of jobs within the community. The Memphis and Shelby County Economic Development Growth Engine (EDGE) board approved tax abatements in 2020 to help RDX redevelop the distressed area. Since then, RDX has created 16 jobs – surpassing its commitment to EDGE – and expects to add 15-20 more jobs over the next two years.
“To our RDX, LLC founders, Roumen Denkov and Dee Tchoparov, thank you for your investment in our city,” Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said. “I know there are any number of other communities that you could have chosen, but we’re grateful you chose to do it here. We look forward to your continued success and growth in Memphis.”
The company also plans to add parking capacity for more than 350 commercial trailers and an additional building that will include bathrooms, showers, laundry and a lounge for drivers.
