Why Memphis? Why this location?

After living in various places over the years due to  my 10 years of military service, my heart basically longed for home.  So, i decided to retire here, near family, and now proud to be establishing my business roots on the soil that helped shape me. I think economic vitality is important and what better community to contribute to and thrive in than the one that helped make me who I am today?

What does your business do or provide?

ThaShoStoppa Hair & Beauty is a hub for quality and competitive hair care and beauty pampering for all genders and all ages.  I value the timeless saying of, “when you look better, you feel better,” and it’s so true.  I believe confidence is important and take great pride in being able to partner in its industry for clients.  My salon is a one-stop shop for attentive hair care while sparing no expense for creativity and individual expression.

Why did you join the Chamber?

After talking to a colleague about the chamber of commerce in their city and the wonderful benefits of networking, being in tune with community growth, and overall support, I started researching my local chamber here in Memphis.  I was immediately intrigued and drawn to the professional partnership that it provided.  I’m serious about putting my best foot forward for my clients and my business—joining the chamber seemed to embody those goals and it’s reassuring to know I have allies to exchange with in the business world.

What was your motivation for starting your own business?

In addition to my family of course, the most prominent passions that have always lived in my heart centered around serving in the military and styling hair. I have literally been styling my own hair since 3rd grade. Once I fulfilled my service to my country and started my family, the main dream left to fulfill was to pursue my natural knack for hair and beauty services.  Just before I was discharged, I lost my husband and my girls lost their father.  It’s been difficult to say the least, but my mission was to persevere and most of all, make sure my girls wanted for nothing.  So, I stepped out on faith and went for it.  From helping my mom with my 4 sisters and cousins hair growing up, styling friends’ hair in college and the Army, and always answering inquiries about who styled my hair or who did my makeup—and revealing that I did myself—It just made sense.  I enrolled in the Empire cosmetology program and completed with high honors and committed my focus to designing the life I always wanted to live as a civilian.  I think entrepreneurship is amazing and my dedication to it is not only rewarding but inspiring for my two daughters.  They know that they too can own their own businesses one day and that alone is worth it.

If your business is expanding, relocating, or opening a new location, what are the reasons for change?

I’ve actually established my brand while in cosmetology school and continued it while working in other salons prior to opening my own shop. To finally be able to open my own independent storefront is a stylist’s dream!  I’m so grateful for the salons where I was able to build my client base but nothing quite compares to having your own space.  This is my new official start so to speak and I’m ecstatic about it.  I look forward to catering to my current clients and of course expand my reach.
