Here at the Greater Memphis Chamber we love to celebrate business growth and development! There’s nothing like standing beside you as you open the doors to your new business or reveal your new expansion. That’s why we offer our members our expertise and assistance with hosting grand opening and expansion ceremonies. Thank you to our Ribbon Cuttings sponsor, Paragon Bank for helping us support local businesses like you.
Today, we are happy to be celebrating Curry ‘n Jerk, downtown’s newest restaurant offering authentic Caribbean food!
Why Memphis, and why this location?
I chose Memphis to be the location of the restaurant because it is my current hometown and I would like to introduce recipes and meals from my country of Panama and the West Indies to the south. I think many people that have traveled to the Caribbean Islands would like the opportunity to taste this type of food sometimes without having to travel so far to get it.
What makes your business stand out?
Curry N Jerk stands out because of the fusion of authentic Caribbean and Latin cuisine. This is something that is not common is this area. In addition, there will be a lounge area downstairs where patrons can listen to live entertainment while enjoying great food.
Why did you join the Chamber?
I joined the Chamber because of the networking opportunities it brings and the information that is available to me as a new business owner.
What was your motivation for opening your own business?
My primary motivation was to fulfill a dream I’ve always had for my mother to have her own restaurant. She passed away before I was able to do it for her, but I am able to share this with my sisters to fulfill the dream I had for our mother.
What advice would you offer to those wanting to start their own business?
I would suggest doing plenty of planning, research and having a lot of patience. With me being a Veteran, it was instilled in me that to be successful, proper planning is an important start.
