Greater Memphis Chamber Chairman’s Circle
Leadership, Action, ImpactLaunched in 2013, The Chairman’s Circle is a group of visionaries comprised of civic-minded C-Suite executives working to spur economic growth, develop the workforce, and improve the business climate throughout the region. Their investment empowers the Chamber to be the independent voice for business and work for a Greater Memphis.
Since its inception, the Chairman’s Circle has:
- Generated more than 32,000 new jobs for our citizens
- Retained more than 33,000 existing jobs that we were at risk of losing
- Attracted more than $12 billion of new capital investment to our market
Engagement Opportunities & Investor Impact
A company representative can attend task force meetings which are followed by a reception to facilitate connections with peer executives.
Economic Development Task Force
The Economic Development Task Force keeps members informed on the Chamber’s work and recruitment efforts. Members help shape marketing strategies and provide insight on relocation and expansion targets. Investors may also serve as subject matter experts for industry reports from the Greater Memphis Economic Research Group (GMERG).
Workforce Task Force
The Workforce Task Force ensures businesses lead in building the region’s talent pipeline. It offers a platform to stay connected with peers on recruitment, retention, and workforce development, while giving investors a voice in shaping the Chamber’s efforts to create a high-functioning workforce for the Memphis region.
Business Climate Task Force
The Business Climate Task Force addresses the local, state, and tri-state governmental ecosystem, covering areas such as public safety, utilities, and transportation infrastructure. Its mission is to maintain and strengthen the pro-business environment in the Memphis MSA.
Public Safety Committee
To address public safety concerns, we created the Public Safety Committee which meets on a regular cadence with the Memphis Police Department, Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Juvenile Court, and other relevant bodies.
This committee does not help to create policy, but rather strives to take inventory of elected leaders’ specific, written public safety plans and offers pressure as well as support to ensure those plans are realized.
In addition to the task forces, there are many other Chairman’s Circle gatherings, including the Chairman’s Circle’s bi-annual Brain Trust meeting which brings our investors together around issues of pressing concern to our region; meetings with local, state, and federal political leaders; and presentations on issues important to business from key leaders and stakeholders.
Chairman’s Circle investors also can participate in Leadership Mission trips each year, including trips to Nashville and Washington, D.C., to advocate for policies that will positively impact our workforce and business climate.
Investors who want to interact with fellow business leaders in smaller groups may opt to attend a Chairman’s Circle Small Group lunch, led by a fellow investor.
