Director of Business Development
• Are you a proactive, take charge, competitive person?
• Are you analytical in your thinking, but able to turn up the charm to win people over?
• Are you always juggling a million projects, but still find a way to win?
If so, as the Director of Business Development for the Greater Memphis Chamber, you will play a key role in economic development. You will attract new corporate investment and work with existing companies in the region to facilitate expansion and economic growth. The Director of Business Development (DBD) will contribute to the chamber’s efforts of receiving commitments from companies to create new jobs and capital investments. They will work with state and local officials to help each company find the perfect location for their business in the Greater Memphis Region. The DBD will manage a high volume of relocation and expansion projects with local, national, and international corporations. Will assist with other areas of the department as needed.

Public Policy & Advocacy Intern

The Greater Memphis Chamber is made up of around 40 employees who have a passion for Memphis and seeing our area businesses grow. The Chamber’s mission is to relentlessly pursue prosperity for all. To grow and strengthen the Memphis economy, the Greater Memphis Chamber seeks to attract new corporate investment and work with existing companies in the region to facilitate expansion and economic growth. The Public Policy and Advocacy Intern will contribute to the Chamber’s efforts by providing support to the Director, Public Policy and Advocacy on legislative tracking, issue updates, writing one-pagers, and policy research as part of the public policy and advocacy agenda for Memphis that supports economic development, job creation, and growth in the community. The intern will have the opportunity to work both remotely and in-person with their supervisor and other members of the Chamber team. Exact work location and schedule will be determined at the time of hire, based on opening status of the Chamber offices and internship requirements. An orientation with the internship supervisor that will take place in-person at the Chamber offices the first week of the internship. Interns may be included for in-person Chamber events, but attendance will be discussed on a case-by-case basis with consideration for the student’s comfort level. Students will be expected to provide their own computer to complete work. The internship will provide valuable experience but is unpaid.

Project Manager of Public Policy & Advocacy
• Are you a proactive, no non-sense, analytical problem solver?
• Are you great at capturing the vision of a project and translating it into actionable steps?
• Do you want to drive projects forward, make an impact, and be accountable to the outcomes?
If so, as the Project Manager of Public Policy & Advocacy, you will help develop and implement the public policy and advocacy agenda for Memphis that supports economic development, job creation, and growth in the community.  This is a hands-on, make-it-happen position for a talented leader who is comfortable figuring things out.
The position serves as an ombudsman for business in targeted sectors and at the individual company level relating to policy and legislative matters, and coordinates communication, engagement, and advocacy of issues before the respective legislative bodies.  The Project Manager coordinates events such as meetings with officials, presentations before Chamber councils/groups, and appearances before legislative bodies as needed to represent the Chamber’s position on key issues. The Project Manager identifies and implements communication and political strategies that support and strengthen a healthy business climate.
