For nearly 180 years, the Greater Memphis Chamber has been the lead economic development organization for Memphis/Shelby County, and is a private, non-profit, membership-driven organization comprised of 2,200 business enterprises, civic organizations, educational institutions and individuals.

Although Chambers often work with large public agencies, they are not departments of any government organization.
The Chamber has a Public Policy department that is advised by a member-led group called the Government Affairs Committee. This committee determines the legislative agenda each year for local, state and federal issues. Learn more here.
