Every city has its own rhythm, but Memphis? We’re a work in progress, and proud of it. This 901 Day, Choose901 and VSNR are teaming up for Project 901: “We’re Working On It” a block party and cultural activation in the Edge District that puts our city’s layered identity front and center.
What does “We’re Working On It” mean?
It’s both a declaration and an invitation. We’re not here to gloss over boarded windows or skip past slow streets. We’re here to celebrate the people, places, and progress that make Memphis what it is and what it’s becoming. As the VSNR Program Director Stephen “Sola” Robertson puts it: “This campaign speaks directly to the layered identity of Memphis. We recognize the challenges the city faces from development gaps to generational inequities but this event uplifts the creative communities, businesses, and local changemakers who are actively building a more vibrant, connected Memphis.”
From gallery walls to food trucks, DJ sets to interactive writing walls, Project 901 is a love letter to our city’s grit and creativity. It’s about honoring the artists, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who show up every day to move Memphis forward.
Sola caught up with some of those builders like Bria Saulsberry, educator, poet, and founder of HomeGrown Arts, whose story reminds us: “Progress is both personal and collective. She’s living proof that the city’s next chapter is being written by those who invest in its roots.” And if you’re talking Memphis hustle, don’t miss the story of Cxffee Black, who are pouring culture, conversation, and community into every cup. “Building Memphis starts with pouring into our people,” they say.
As Project 901’s organizers put it: “We’re not just throwing a party, we’re making a statement. Memphis is a work in progress. And we’re celebrating the people who are building anyway.”
On September 1st, join us at The Ravine and throughout the Edge District for a free, city-wide celebration. Bring your people. Wear your city. Be part of the story. Because in Memphis, we’re working on it, together.
