Perhaps you’re a small business just getting your start or maybe you’re a well-established business in our community. You think, “Should I join the Chamber?” or “Is this the right investment for my business?” Regardless of what stage your business is in, the Greater Memphis Chamber works to make sure you’re getting the most of your membership.
Advocacy
The Greater Memphis Chamber is dedicated to driving the Memphis business agenda which often appears in the form of advocacy and government relations. As a member, you will have the opportunity to help us advocate for business-friendly policies on local, state, and federal levels.
Each year, we take a delegation of business leaders to Nashville for MEM2NASH. This trip is a day full of meaningful meetings with state legislators and officials and is a time for business leaders to advocate alongside the Chamber for what really matters to businesses and Memphis.
Whitney Jo, a Chamber Ambassador and representative from Playhouse on the Square said, “Not only is it [Chamber membership] great for networking that can only grow our business, but also a way to be an even bigger asset to our community by participating in the bigger picture.”
Advocacy is one of the many ways our members participate in the “bigger picture.” It is how our business community can contribute to the broader Memphis community.
Business Resources and Support
Business resources and support are a crucial part of what we do at the Chamber. By joining the Chamber, you have access to a wide range of benefits. Chamber Benefits Inc. is a subsidiary of the Greater Memphis Chamber that offers these benefits. We offer a workers’ compensation insurance solution, AccidentFund. We have a partnership with ODP Solutions where our members and their employees can save on office products. We also offer Cigna Health insurance for our members. Through this partnership, we provide discounts on health insurance for member businesses and help them find the plan that fits their employees’ needs. Additionally, we recently launched healthcare centers, called ChamberCare, in partnership with WeCare tlc and YMCA Memphis & Mid-South. These centers provide employees of Chamber members and their dependents with quality, convenient medical services from experienced professionals.
Aside from healthcare, insurance, and discounts, we have an in-house research team, Greater Memphis Economic Research Group (GMERG), that assists members with a variety of research projects. GMERG prides themselves on helping business leaders make data-driven decisions. Their research projects range from business cost comparisons to economic impact reports to spatial analysis reports and more.
Workforce
Workforce is another of our priorities at the Chamber. For a city to have economic growth, it has to have the workforce to support it. Our goal is to work alongside existing businesses and help them build a future-ready workforce.
We work directly with our members to provide them with the resources they need and help with a variety of workforce-related concerns. We can walk you through the process of leveraging hiring incentives, provide you with key workforce data, and even discuss opportunities with the untapped labor pool.
The Greater Memphis Chamber’s Workforce Development team has decades of experience that they use to create valuable programs and initiates to help further our talent pipeline. Businesses looking to get involved in developing our city’s workforce can participate in our Manufacturing Tours or Teacher Externship Program. Both of these programs expose educators to a variety of career opportunities they can then share with their students. We continually develop new programs and ideas to cultivate the workforce our businesses need.
Visibility and Business Promotion
Finally, if you join the Chamber there are opportunities to increase your business’s visibility and brand recognition. By being an engaged member, you can increase your visibility and promote your business. Simply attending events and networking can help in this aspect. We also have sponsorship opportunities that range from supporting our events, our magazine and more.
Brent Hooks, Vice President of Cornerstone Engineering said, “The Chamber has provided Cornerstone Engineering with a platform to showcase our capabilities while aligning us with key initiatives that impact Memphis… By participating in Chamber-led programs and initiatives, we’ve significantly elevated our visibility, demonstrating our commitment to strengthening Memphis and supporting its growth.”
