Removing Barriers for Companies to Invest in Memphis
There’s been a lot of public conversation lately around economic development in Memphis – that’s a great thing.
The fact that we are having this conversation is actually positive because it means that there is interest from companies to locate in our market. Companies are looking at Memphis – the kind of companies with jobs that align with our community’s priority of bringing high wage jobs for our citizens.
There are a myriad of solutions and proposals for making sure our city is competitive in attracting business.
In an op-ed for The Daily Memphian this morning, Chamber Senior Vice President of Economic Development Eric Miller proposes one simple way to remove a barrier for companies to invest in this area – a barrier that independent third-party research suggests makes Memphis and Shelby County less competitive in attracting projects, as compared to peer markets.
