MEMPHIS, TN – The Greater Memphis Chamber is proud to announce it has been recognized with a prestigious 2025 Community Impact (CiCi) Award for successfully recruiting AAON, Inc. to Memphis. This national recognition highlights the significant economic and community benefits of AAON’s investment in the region.
AAON’s new 787,000-square-foot Memphis facility will produce advanced thermal management equipment under the BASX brand, including air-cooled systems, computer room air handlers (CRAHs), direct evaporative coolers, and liquid cooling distribution units. These critical systems will support multibillion-dollar data centers and AI-driven facilities across the country, including xAI’s operations in Memphis.
“This recognition underscores Memphis’ growing reputation as the Digital Delta,” said Ted Townsend, President & CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber. “AAON’s decision to establish operations in Memphis not only creates hundreds of high-quality jobs but also strengthens our position in the technology supply chain, particularly as we support the expanding AI infrastructure in our region.”
“AAON is honored to be named as a 2025 Community Impact Award recipient by Trade & Industry Development,” said Matt Shaub, AAON Executive VP & General Manager, BASX Business Unit. “We aim to make a real and lasting difference in Memphis through our focus on workforce readiness, strong families and communities, and environmental responsibility. Memphis is a hub for economic growth and opportunity, and we value its passion for community and creative spirit. We’re thrilled to bring new jobs and investment to the region where we aspire to be a magnet for top talent as our new manufacturing facility ramps up and accomplishes goals.”
The project will generate substantial economic activity in Shelby County while breathing new life into a historic building. AAON’s commitment includes creating 825+ new jobs, providing diverse employment opportunities for families across the region.
The project was made possible through collaborative efforts between multiple economic development partners. Tennessee Valley Authority offered a performance training grant, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) awarded AAON an economic development grant through the department’s FastTrack funding, and the City of Memphis awarded a 15-year PILOT program grant.
The CiCi Awards, which recognize outstanding Community Impact in economic development, place Memphis alongside other major economic development victories across the nation. This achievement follows the Chamber’s 2024 Bronze Deal of the Year Award from Business Facilities magazine for successfully attracting xAI’s Gigafactory of Compute to Memphis.
