Mullen Announces Memphis to Become US Manufacturing Hub for Electronic Vehicles

BREA, Calif., March 18, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — via InvestorWire – Mullen Technologies Inc. (“Mullen” or the “Company”), an emerging electric vehicle (“EV”) manufacturer, which previously announced a definitive agreement to merge with Net Element, Inc. (NASDAQ: NETE) in a stock-for-stock reverse merger in which Mullen’s stockholders will receive a majority of the outstanding stock in the post-merger company, announces its intent to execute a long-term lease on an 820,000-square-foot facility in Memphis, Tennessee. With the help of local and state incentives from the city of Memphis and the state of Tennessee, respectively, Mullen plans to create up to 800 jobs and deliver 100,000 vehicles over a five-year period, commencing in Q4 of 2023.

City of Memphis Partners with Operation Hope to Help Launch 1 Million Black Businesses by 2030

MEMPHIS, February 18, 2021 – Mayor Jim Strickland and the City of Memphis joins forces with Operation HOPE in support of its 1 Million Black Business and Entrepreneur Initiative (1MBB) aimed at launching 1 Million Black Owned Businesses nationwide by 2030. Mayor Strickland announced his commitment to the initiative at the Virtual HOPE Global Forum in November, and is now taking it one step further by committing to engaging through outreach 500 Black small businesses and entrepreneurs to the 1MBB program over the remaining three years of his term. Operation HOPE will be hosting a virtual event on Friday, February 19th at 1pm CST to celebrate the commitment, and educate the community on how they can get involved. Speakers include John Hope Bryant, Founder and CEO of Operation HOPE, Mayor Jim Strickland, Beverly Robertson, CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber, Joann Massey, City of Memphis’ Director of Business Diversity & Compliance, Lance Triggs, President of HOPE Program Operations, and more.

Robertson Announces New Partnership with SHRM-Memphis

First Priority, Getting Women Who Have Been Out of the Workforce to Return

February 9, 2021 – Greater Memphis Chamber President & CEO, Beverly Robertson, announced today that the Chamber has formed a new partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)-Memphis Chapter.  While the partnership will focus on bringing new hiring and training practices to the Memphis market, the first joint venture will pursue opportunities for women who have been out of the workforce for various reasons and now ready to return.  The Chamber and SHRM-Memphis will connect qualified candidates with potential employers and training programs if needed.  Robertson announced this new partnership today at the National Association of Women Business Owner’s – Memphis Chapter’s monthly luncheon.

Southwest Tennessee Community College launches new faculty externship

Southwest Tennessee Community College rolled out its Faculty Externship Program last summer and is set for a second round. The innovative initiative aimed at closing the gap between real-world application and classroom instruction placed Southwest faculty in area business environments where they engaged in knowledge sharing. “It’s a mutually beneficial partnership that enables our faculty to provide expert assistance to a company, while gaining knowledge and experience on the latest technology and protocols in the workplace,” Associate Dean of Professional Development Dr. Jennifer Townes said. “The faculty pass on that knowledge and experience to our students who will enter the workforce.”

University of Memphis Awarded $1 Million Grant for Automation and Robotics Training Center

Chamber’s Women Build 901 Workforce Initiative Recognized as a National Benchmark Program

As a sub-group of The Greater Memphis Chamber’s We Build 901 Collaborative, Women Build 901 Too! has recently received national recognition by the U.S. Chamber Foundation Center for Education and Workforce as a benchmark program that’s building pathways for women in construction. The program was formed to attract job seekers to the trade in efforts to address the shortage of nearly 2,000 workers in the construction industry in Memphis.
