YPC Host First Virtual Professional Development Workshop
In March, the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Young Professionals Council (YPC) held its first virtual professional development event that was fully attend by some of Memphis’s emerging leaders. YPC Professional Development Co-Chairs Jeremy Calhoun and Leslie Finch teamed up to plan an Enneagram workshop where members had the opportunity to take the Enneagram test free of charge to learn about their leadership style and how to best interact with others.

Ernest Strickland Named President & CEO of Black Business Association
The Black Business Association of Memphis (BBA) named Ernest Strickland as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Strickland joins the organization after serving as Senior Vice President of Workforce Development for the Greater Memphis Chamber. In his new role, Strickland will oversee the 47-year-old organization that empowers entrepreneurship and improvement of business and growth opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses. BBA partners with multiple organizations throughout the community supporting the goals of economic equality. Strickland will officially take the helm on Wednesday, April 1st.

Mullen Announces Memphis to Become US Manufacturing Hub for Electronic Vehicles

City of Memphis Partners with Operation Hope to Help Launch 1 Million Black Businesses by 2030
MEMPHIS, February 18, 2021 – Mayor Jim Strickland and the City of Memphis joins forces with Operation HOPE in support of its 1 Million Black Business and Entrepreneur Initiative (1MBB) aimed at launching 1 Million Black Owned Businesses nationwide by 2030. Mayor Strickland announced his commitment to the initiative at the Virtual HOPE Global Forum in November, and is now taking it one step further by committing to engaging through outreach 500 Black small businesses and entrepreneurs to the 1MBB program over the remaining three years of his term. Operation HOPE will be hosting a virtual event on Friday, February 19th at 1pm CST to celebrate the commitment, and educate the community on how they can get involved. Southwest Tennessee Community College launches new faculty externship
Southwest Tennessee Community College rolled out its Faculty Externship Program last summer and is set for a second round. The innovative initiative aimed at closing the gap between real-world application and classroom instruction placed Southwest faculty in area business environments where they engaged in knowledge sharing. “It’s a mutually beneficial partnership that enables our faculty to provide expert assistance to a company, while gaining knowledge and experience on the latest technology and protocols in the workplace,” Associate Dean of Professional Development Dr. Jennifer Townes said. “The faculty pass on that knowledge and experience to our students who will enter the workforce.”
