Chamber’s 2020 Mid-Year Chairman’s Forum to Focus on “After the Virus”

June 15, 2020 by Amy Daniels

On Tuesday, June 23,  join the Greater Memphis Chamber Chairman Willie Gregory for the Chamber’s first virtual Mid-Year Chairman’s Forum.  Chairman Gregory will give a brief update on the activity the Chamber has engaged in during the first half of the year.  Following Chamber updates, we will have Benjamin Pring, co-founder of Cognizant’s Center for the Future of Work, as the keynote speaker.

Ben will discuss “After the Virus.” His discussion will center around what is going to be changed?  What technologies we will use?  How we will go back to physical facilities to work? What about travel, security, health and safety?  Ben feels it is “unrealistic to think that we will go back to normal and we as leaders need to adjust.”  Ben has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, the London Times, Forbes, Fortune, the MIT Review, the Daily Telegraph, Quartz, Inc., Axios, the Australian, and the Economic Times.

Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis regional economist Charles S. Gascon made it clear to a crowd of nearly 300 business leaders that while the Memphis economy is growing, we still have a lot of work to do to accelerate our region’s economic future. The Greater Memphis Chamber’s 2020 State of the Economy, sponsored by Duncan Williams, Inc., Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, MLGW, and Waddell & Associates, gave the business community an outlook on the rate of Memphis’ growth compared to the U.S. and competitive regions, as well as advice on what we can do to pick up the pace.

Could UNCONSCIOUS Bias Impact your Business?

June 14, 2019 by Amy Daniels

On Wednesday, June 5th, Sephora closed its stores nationwide to provide diversity training for all 16,000 of the company’s employees. The temporary closure and training protocol were implemented after singer SZA publicly shared an experience in which she reported being racial profiled during a trip to the company’s Calabasas, California store. The singer posted on social media that a Sephora employee called security on her to “make sure she wasn’t stealing” while she was shopping for cosmetics.
