Message fatigue: How to keep content fresh and audiences engaged

November 24, 2020 by Amy Daniels

We live in a busy world with messages flying at us constantly and from multiple channels – social media, emails, billboards, streaming platforms, direct mail and signage hanging in store windows and on office walls. The list goes on. Those channels are constantly evolving, too. From technology like smart watches to newer social platforms like TikTok, the ways in which we are communicated with are multiplying. Add a global pandemic to that, where you are seeing the same information hurled your direction multiple times a day, and you could end up with a recipe for confusion or at least a passive audience.

Strategic, planned communication cannot be rigid

November 6, 2020 by Amy Daniels

It may sound like an oxymoron if I were to say, “Planned communication must also be unplanned.” But as PR professionals, this is pretty much a given. Yes, our job is to be laser-focused on strategic planning and preparing for the most optimal communication-related results – as far in advance as possible. At the same time, we’re also in charge of keeping our fingers on the pulse of what’s going on around us, including cultural movements, emerging trends, unanticipated nuances and well, I have to add… pandemics. So, how do you create communication plans that are strategic yet adaptable? Below are a few things to keep in mind as you plan.

Have you checked your digital front door?

October 17, 2020 by Amy Daniels

The digitization of business processes has fully trickled down to small and local businesses, in part because necessity mandated a major transition to online business development in the early months of 2020. Regardless of the reason for this transition, it would be naive to think that we’ll backtrack away from digital engagement, even with local businesses. The convenience, simplicity and privacy afforded to consumers when they engage with businesses online has opened eyes to a new world of consumerism, and it’s unlikely that everyone will return to running errands around town when they can engage with businesses they love from the comfort of their home.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot of things about how businesses run, one of them being where work gets done. With more people working remotely, we are all spending more time communicating electronically, both through instant messaging services like Zoom and through email.

When it comes to your story, let every word tell

July 9, 2020 by Amy Daniels

When I was in college, a journalism professor etched a three-word phrase into my head, “every word tell.” That phrase ends a much longer string of clauses that I once committed to memory and have since forgotten, but those three words became writing mantra. Even as I write this piece, I’m gamifying the process – trying to deliver an actionable message with no fluff.

5 Things to Consider When Developing a Digital Marketing Strategy

June 24, 2020 by Amy Daniels

The success of any good marketing campaign is the strategy that supports it. Whether that is developed years in advance or crafted after a viral moment, marketing plans allow for a long-lasting effect to be made on consumers. The term “strategy” can often seem intimidating to those running a small business or team, but it doesn’t have to be. A solid digital marketing strategy can allow time and resources to be allocated where they will have the greatest impact on your communication goals.

More than half of all media spend is being used on the internet – that is a projected 12.4% increase from 2019, according to Ad Age. This number may trend even higher due to COVID-19. Stay-at-home orders have changed where and how people spend their time. This has created a vacuum that media companies – particularly digital channels – are striving to fill.

When it comes to creating a solid digital marketing strategy, there are five things all small businesses should consider.
