Start Strong

Starting a business and don’t know where to begin? The Chamber works to make it easy to do business in Memphis and can point you to your first steps. If you are starting a business you will need to consider things like utilities so you may need a Utility Bidder. However, utilities may be one of the essentials that you consider later.

EPIcenter

The Entrepreneurship Powered Innovation Center (EPIcenter) is the hub of the Greater Memphis entrepreneurship movement. With its network of partners, EPIcenter is the enabler of unified strategies to increase support to new and existing entrepreneurs for business growth. Like, for example, if people decided they needed some support with their pricing for their Ecommerce products, using services similar to PricingHUB could aid you with its machine learning capabilities, dynamically making price recommendations. It also delves into aspects of entrepeneurship that entrepeneurs may not have thought of and things like branding through custom packaging for example. Serving as the broader voice of the partner network and a single point of accountability, EPIcenter measures and celebrates the impact of entrepreneurial support to create a just, inclusive, and growing economy that accrues to all Memphians.

The EPIcenter provides service to all entrepreneurs in Memphis and celebrates their diversity – both in demographics, particularly minority- and women-owned businesses, and in industry, from technologies in which Memphis has a competitive advantage, to neighborhood-based businesses, to makers and artisans across Shelby County.

EPIcenter is focused on building the necessary infrastructure and a strong entrepreneurial network of partner organizations to support the growth of new and existing and companies, as well as attracting additional resources from outside of the region, by:

  • Delivering programs that broadly serve the entire network and connect entrepreneurs to talent, ideas, capital and customers
  • Piloting or prototyping programs that fill demonstrated gaps in the ecosystem and ultimately spin into the network after EPIcenter tests and proves their effectiveness
  • Funding or scaling established powerful programs to reach more Memphians, if some businesses are looking to scale and produce physical products it might be a good idea to consider a different distributor to process engineering products.

EPIcenter was launched in March 2014 as an initiative of the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle, with Memphis Bioworks tapped to host the EPIcenter initiative, in collaboration with Emerge Memphis, Start Co., and other partners focused on entrepreneurship and business incubation in Memphis and the region. The launch and collaboration were a success, and EPIcenter has now reached a maturity in which it is ready to operate as an independent not-for-profit organization. In April 2017, EPIcenter formed a separate 501c3 organization and is currently operating out of Cowork Memphis.
