John Dobbs is Chief Executive Officer of Dobbs Equity Partners, LLC, a company that makes private equity investments in existing and start-up operating companies. The Dobbs family has been leading businesses in Memphis since the 1920s. It all started with Dobbs Ford car dealerships and Hull-Dobbs House restaurants. John builds on that legacy; his firm owns companies in many industries including medical device, hospitality, automotive, trucking, and specialty business services.

Diamond Specialty Insurance, a managing general agency specializing in the nonstandard automobile insurance industry in Texas.
Dobbs Family Automotive, a portfolio of franchise automobile dealerships including: Shawnee Mission Ford, Red River Dodge Heber Springs, Red River Dodge Malvern, and Toyota of Longview.
Finishing Innovations, market leader in the orthopedic medical device and instrument industry
Universal Group, suppling suspension components to the automotive and heavy-duty truck replacement market
And the Corky’s BBQ we all know and love with locations in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas and Texas.
John has his undergraduate degree from Duke University and MBA from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School. He has been involved in many civic organizations and served on the board of Delta Waterfowl, Memphis College of Art and Memphis University School. He and his wife Katherine are the engine behind the Children Museum’s renaissance with the Katherine & John Dobbs Family Center.
